Upside Reports joins GBCZ across Zambia to unite Deaf leaders in the 1st Zambian National Deaf Leadership Summit. We follow the GBCZ team, Francis Refan Phiri Frank Musukwa Rachel Baker Tessa Heldens and Willem van der Sanden, in their work on site to improve access to Deaf education, interpreter training, job opportunities, and develop Zambian Sign Language.

In the face of escalating climate change, what are the "perverse subsidies" that protect fossil fuels? What would the world look like without them? How has the renewable energy sector taken hold? How has our western culture has been founded on a highly shadow masculine mentality. 
Recognizing that Masculine and Feminine are just energies, We ALL have them within us. This is not the same as Man and Woman. These are energies with their respective properties, and they are highly illuminating for analyzing political, social, economic and ecological issues.

As a man, identified with the masculine, I believe it is my duty to stand up for the feminine. Here we get into the the Masculine / Feminine energies that we all have in different forms within us, regardless of gender. Each has its place, and complements the other. In order to overcome antagonism, toxic masculinity, patriarchy, and oppression, we'll have to learn to balance these forces. This means talking about it openly. Its actually very simple...

"Mindfulness" is a very misleading concept. The mind creates stories and expectations. But to embody what we think of as mindful, we should actually focus on being HEARTFULL. Actually focus on feeling instead of thinking. 

What can we do about systemic racism? Black Lives Matter? Our legacy of colonialism and genocide of indigenous people? We can take ownership of it, even if that legacy is only inherited, the buck stops here. Just like the US Veterans who publicly apologized at Standing Rock for atrocities committed by their military ancestors against indigenous people, we can take a stand to heal our wounds. Its not so hard.
